This “Death Calender” is an illustration of the reality in Gaza, Palestine. People mark their calendars for important events and celebrations. Meanwhile in Gaza, another day marks losing another friend, family, neighbor, or anyone around them.
Since October 7th (updated May 6th, 2024) there have been at least 34,735 deaths (including 14,944 children and 9,849 women), 3,081 massacres, and 78,101 people missing in Gaza (Source: www.techforpalestine.org). As these numbers continue to rise, it is easy to lose sight of meaning and forget that there are stories behind each and every name on the death reports
This visualization serves as a heartfelt cry for us all to continue raising our voices. Around the world, we see protests and rallies as a call for humanity demanding for a Free Palestine. More recently, university students across the US have been calling for universities to disclose divest funding to any companies complicit in the Israeli genocide, apartheid, and occupation of Palestine. Over on social media, young influencers and journalists continue to share the stories of people in Palestine.
This calendar is a reminder of the on-going violence in Gaza, as the number of deaths continue to rise. This is a call for all eyes on Gaza, Rafah, and the West Bank.
