Indonesia continues to hold the top spot as the most generous country in the world, as shown in the latest data from the World Giving Index 2024, compiled by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). This is the seventh consecutive year that Indonesia has led the rankings, showcasing the remarkable generosity of its people. With an impressive score of 74, Indonesia outperforms other countries by a significant margin. This survey has more than 2 million respondents from 142 countries, since its start in 2010. The index itself has three indicators: donating money to charity, volunteering, and helping out strangers.
This global recognition is the result of various charitable activities by Indonesians. According to the report, 9 out of 10 people in Indonesia have donated money to charitable causes, while over 65% have volunteered their time. The country has excelled in both financial donations and time commitment, emphasizing a strong culture of giving and community involvement.
Kenya, Singapore, and The Gambia follow Indonesia in the rankings, with Kenya securing second place with 63 points. Singapore has made significant progress, reaching the third spot, highlighting the growing commitment of Singaporeans to charitable activities, driven in part by government initiatives encouraging donations and volunteerism. Other countries in the top 10 include Nigeria, the United States, and Australia, which continue to maintain a strong presence in global giving.
Indonesia’s consistent performance on the World Giving Index reflects its deeply rooted values of mutual support and community. The nation’s top ranking is not just a matter of financial contributions but also a testament to the widespread willingness to help others, whether through volunteering or assisting strangers in need. This culture of generosity continues to inspire the world.
